Progress Letter
Dear mom, I’m writing this to tell you how I’m doing in my classes, because I don’t like telling you this face-to-face. So far, I think I’m doing all right. Yes, sometimes I want to quit or drop out of the class because it was too hard and it involved a lot of imagination, which I’m good at, but when it comes to an assignment, I just want to quit. Anyway, the semester is done, and as much as I love my teacher I can’t help but say thank god. Don’t get me wrong I learned a lot of new words I didn’t know or knew but didn’t understand, like Barzen, Soliloquy, Whimsical, and many more. When I first started the class I thought it would be fun because my friend said she took the same class in Hunter College and it was a lot of fun for her but now I know just because they are the same class doesn’t mean that the lesson will be the same. At first, it was easy we started the class by writing a poem about home and what home means to us which I really liked, but as we got more and more into the class it started to get hard for me to keep up. Not only was there too much writing, but the teacher gave us one to two days to finish some work which made it hard for me to focus because I had other work to do in other classes and I had to work until midnight. I got home and had to rush to finish the assignment before the next day because I didn’t want to fail or turn in the work later. Yes, I did skip some classes which made it even harder for me to understand the class but I tried my best to keep going. My favorite part of the class was shockingly the play right section or to be more specific the Book Play not only because it was my highest grade in the class but also because I got to make two characters who were like me but also not. I think the reason I like it so much is because of the manga they were fighting over One Piece because it is my favorite Manga/Anime of all time. I also learned some new words when it comes to play write like At Rise which means the moment the play starts. I also got to learn about authors/playwrights I have never heard of before like Shirley Jackson who wrote the short story ‘After You My Dear Alphonse’ which is a story about racism. And my personal favorite crazy glue by Etgar Keret because of how funny and unrealistic it is. So all in all this class was a good class at first I was good and then I suggested a lot but I’m glad I didn’t drop out or quit because the teacher was really nice, if you didn’t understand something she was also there to help you get better, she always answered my email whenever I emailed her about needing help she give me good feedback and also take her time explaining the work to me if I was to ask her. Yes sometime I didn’t do as she told me or just forgot about what she said but whenever I needed her help, it was good to know that she was also just an email away.
